Internal memo

Bike shops already track frames. Riders lose the small stuff.

Subject

Make rider-owned items returnable without turning your WhatsApp into a lost-and-found hotline.

1. Offer tags at checkout

Clip a hang tag on personal panniers or sell a sticker pack with the rental. Don’t force it on every cheap helmet if it creates clutter — start with multi-day rentals.

2. Explain the privacy switch in one sentence

“It’s private until you lose something — then you turn it on.” People get that faster than a feature list.

3. Let finders skip your staff

Café owners shouldn’t need your dispatch number. A scan that reaches the rider directly is the whole point.

Avoid

  • Using one QR for the entire rental fleet (then you own every recovery chat)
  • Forgetting to have riders claim tags before they roll out

Margin note

Coastal rental shops see the same black backpack every afternoon. The tag isn’t fashion. It’s a quiet handshake between strangers.
